MONKEY TOWN EDUCATIONAL TOURS FOR YOUR LEARNERS

Monkey Town Primate Centre is a wildlife Centre for monkeys and apes with more than 230 animals and 28 different exotic species including Tammy, Ruby, and Sunny, our famous chimp sisters. There is also koi ponds, many bird species and small antelope on the premises.

We are inviting you to visit Monkey Town with your learners for an educational outing and to take part in our special education programme. We can accommodate up to 120 learners from Mondays to Fridays.

The various programmes entail a short presentation by Monkey Town staff followed by group activity and a guided field trip and tour through Monkey Town. The time allocated should be at least 1 hour.

Presentation Options

A. Preschool and Grades 1-3: Foundation Phase – Environment (Awareness of and a Comparison between Human and Non-Human Primates/Other animals in the environment.) Topic: Monkeys are a lot like us.

B. Grades 4-7: Intermediate Phase – Science – Theme Life, Sub-theme Variety. (An investigation to establish the Variety of Life Forms and the Characteristics of Mammals and Primates). Topic: What is a Primate?

C. Grades 8-9: Senior Phase – Science – Theme Life, Variety of Life Forms. (An investigation into Environment Interaction and the Variety of Life Forms with emphasis on the differences between Primate Species). Topic: New world versus Old world monkeys.

D. Grades 10-12: Science (An investigation into the Interaction between Environments and the influence of Humans on Diminishing Animal Habitats). Topic: Endangered Primate Species and their habitats.

Special entry fee for learners is R20.00. One teacher/adult per 10 learners may go into the park free of charge to supervise. There is a restaurant serving light meals and refreshments. Learners may bring their own lunch boxes and tuck shop money.

Make your visit more interactive!
Children are encouraged to bring along a fruit or vegitable for the monkeys. See which is the monkeys favorite food. Do you think they will like the fruits or the veggies more?!

Spend the whole day with us!

For a more enjoyable visit for teachers and learners, your learners can have a fun day at the play park after their educational tour through the park. For an extra R10.00 per learner they can swim in the rock swimming pool, make use of the trampolines, volley ball, swing ball and play park. The teachers can sit back and relax on the deck area in the play park with a cup of coffee and cake of the day or order something from our menu. So if you do make use of this venue, please advise children to bring along swimming gear. The Play Park can only accommodate groups of 60 kids at a time.

Bringing your learners to Monkey Town helps us build better facilities for both the monkeys and those wanting to learn more about them. Your future visits will see these projects taking place:

- An Educational Classroom for the learners, so that we can make your visits more comfortable.

- A new Monkey Kitchen will allow learners to see how our kitchen staff cut and prepare the monkeys food.

- The Monkey Hospital This would save Monkey Town a great deal of money we will then get volunteer vets over with experience to come and work with our monkeys.
